rsnapshot - Local/Remote Filesystem backups utility in openSUSE

rsnapshot is a filesystem backup utility based on rsync. Using rsnapshot, it is possible to take snapshots of your filesystems at different points in time. Using hard links, rsnapshot creates the illusion of multiple full backups, while only taking up the space of one full backup plus differences. When coupled with ssh, it is possible to take snapshots of remote filesystems as well.

VeritasNetBackup: Restores from multiplexed database backups

NetBackup can run several restores at the same time from a single multiplexed tape. This is done by means of theMPX_RESTORE_DELAY option, which specifies how long, in seconds, the server waits for additional restore requests of files or raw partitions that are in a set of multiplexed images on the same tape. The restore requests received within thisperiod are executed simultaneously. By default, the delay is 30 seconds.

GNU cpio copies files into or out of a cpio or tar archive

GNU cpio copies files into or out of a cpio or tar archive. The archive can be another file on the disk, a magnetic tape, or a pipe.GNU cpio supports the following archive formats: binary, old ASCII, new ASCII, crc, HPUX binary, HPUX old ASCII, old tar, and POSIX.1 tar. The tar format is provided for compatability with the tar program.A cpio archive is a stream of files and directories in a single archive, and often ends with a .cpio file extension. The archive has header information that allows for an application such as the GNU cpio tool to extract the files and directories into a file system. The header of a cpio archive also contains information such as the file name, time stamp, owner and permissions
