Convertire un visitatore in un utente è l’obiettivo massimo. Per utente si intende in questa sede un utente registrato che può significare tante cose in relazione a contesti differenti. Uno sviluppatore o un designer deve porsi, di fronte tale obiettivo, in modo pro-attivo: deve cioè innescare il processo di transizione da visitatore a utente e l’arma in più, a parte i contenuti e gli strumenti offerti dal sito, è certamente l’uso della grafica.

Per i non-designer è sempre molto utile leggere questi articoli, in quanto rappresentano il giusto complemento a quella che in effetti è una mancanza. Almeno per quanto mi riguarda, io che non tengo in mano una matita da una vita, la carenza in fatto di design rischia talvolta di pesare più del dovuto. Faccio leva più sul codice e sugli aspetti esteticamente meno artistici. Ma – ripeto – può risultare una mancanza solo a livello estetico, in quanto sul codice lavoro e cerco di farlo nella maniera migliore.

Negli ultimi tempi, prima di iniziare a scrivere il codice sql necessario alla creazione di tabelle e indici, ho imparato a modellare le entità attraverso MySQL Workbench, lo strumento di design di MySQL. MySQL Workbench nasce dalle ceneri del bellissimo e potente DbDesigner 4 della fabFORCE, disponibile in ambiente Windows e sviluppato con librerie Qt. Le prime versioni di MySQL Workbench erano praticamente inusabili: crash continui e improvvisi impedivano di utilizzarlo in modo produttivo. La versione che ho installato qualche mese fa (cioè la 5.1.17) è invece sorprendentemente stabile e ben realizzata.

In this last period on PV.M Garage we have described many trends of the modern Web Design and many techniques for creating stunning and impressive web sites. In one of our tutorials we learned how to realize a nice 3D ribbon and how to play with the drop shadow in Photoshop to simulate depth in a web design layout. This is a widespread trends in recent web design: creating a 3D perception in a website and simulating a “world” in three dimensions are two great ways for the designers to play with their skills. Thanks to useful graphic softwares (2D) we can easily create 3D elements, like ribbons and shadows, but we can also reproduce 3D scene using perspective, focus, color shading and opacity. Appurato che certe metodologie di design funzionano bene solo per certi siti, ho deciso di disegnare un nuovo layout.
