Claws Mail rilascia la nuova release 3.6.1 disponibile anche per Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex

claws_mail.png Claws Mail, (formerly known as Sylpheed-Claws), is a GTK+-based e-mail client and news client for Linux. It started in April 2001 as the development version of Sylpheed, where new features could be tested and debugged, but evolved enough to now be a completely separate program. It forked from Sylpheed in August 2005. The software is intended to be light-weight and it has a similar interface to that of Sylpheed's.

The Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) provides audio and MIDI functionality to the Linux operating system

alsa.png Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (known by the acronym ALSA) is a Linux kernel component intended to replace the original Open Sound System (OSS) for providing device drivers for sound cards. Some of the goals of the ALSA project at its inception were automatic configuration of sound-card hardware, and graceful handling of multiple sound devices in a system, goals which it has largely met[citation needed]. A couple of different frameworks, such as JACK, use ALSA to allow performing low-latency professional-grade[citation needed] audio editing and mixing.

ALAC Decoder, Apple Lossless Audio Codec files

alac_decoder.png Located here is a basic decoder for Apple Lossless Audio Codec files (ALAC). ALAC is a proprietary lossless audio compression scheme. Apple never released any documents on the format. What I provide here is a C implementation of a decoder, written from reverse engineering the file format. It turns out that most of the algorithms in the codec are fairly well known. ALAC uses an adaptive FIR prediction algorithm and stores the error values using a modified rice or golumb algorithm. Further details are in alac.c.

What is The Insidious Big Brother Database?

bbdb.jpg The Insidious Big Brother Database (BBDB) is a contact management utility created by Jamie Zawinski for use with Emacs. For many years it was maintained by Waider. Since February 2007 BBDB is maintained by Robert Widhopf-Fenk. It is tightly integrated with several mail and news readers (see below), allowing it to create database entries directly from mail and news messages. As is usual with applications for Emacs, this record creation can be configured in many ways, ranging from a boolean create/don't create setting to creation based on the result of a user-supplied function. Database records can be used to store many types of information, from name and address to URLs and X-Face images. This information can be displayed when a message from an entity named in a database record is recieved. In addition, messages from database members can be tagged in the Gnus Summary Buffer, and Gnus scoring can be configured based on the contents of database records. Supercite citations can even be preset through the use of records in the BBDB.

BB-tools are a number of simple X-Window programs to display the status of different resources

BB-tools are a number of simple X-Window programs to display the status of different resources. The style and part of the code is copied from Blackbox a small and extremely fast X11-Windowmanager. Although the programs are written to be used with Blackbox, they should work in any other X11-Windowmanager.
