Qualche esempio sul "backup perfetto" su Linux

It doesn't exist a best tecnique or policy about how to backup your data in Linux. It depends how are your data and if you want backup them locally or in remote. There are some mature tools for specific tasks and you have to decide with one suits better. There are some GUIs that simplify the job, but in case of issues, the terminal is the ONLY way to debug what is happening.

How To Back Up Your Files With Areca On Fedora 9

Areca is a personal file backup software developed in Java. It allows you to select files or directories to back up, filter, encrypt and compress their content, and store them on your backup location. Areca supports incremental backups and generates backup reports, which can be stored on your disk or sent by email. This guide explains how to install and use it on a Fedora 9 desktop (GNOME).

VeritasNetBackup: Restores from multiplexed database backups

veritas.jpg NetBackup can run several restores at the same time from a single multiplexed tape. This is done by means of theMPX_RESTORE_DELAY option, which specifies how long, in seconds, the server waits for additional restore requests of files or raw partitions that are in a set of multiplexed images on the same tape. The restore requests received within thisperiod are executed simultaneously. By default, the delay is 30 seconds.

It evolved from a bash-script I wrote to handle automated backup's on Linux fileservers. The script worked ok, but it soon proved difficult and tiresome to make local modifications to the script to handle various problems or differences.

Amanda is a client server application for making remote backups.

amanda-logo.gif Amanda is a client/server application for making remote backups. While originating from a UNIX environment, it also supports backups of windows machines (via the smbclient utility). Client software for other machines is planned. See the Amanda homepage for details. The Amanda CDRW-Taper is a drop-in replacement for the taper component of the Amanda backup system. CDRW-Taper makes it possible to dump backups to CD-RW, DVD+RW or DVD-RW instead of tape.

Bastrama is a command-line tool to manage backup files

bastrama.png Bastrama is a command-line tool to manage backup files that are stored on random access memory (e.g. hard drives). It implements an infinite grandfather-father-son strategy by deleting a defined subset of the backup files, therefore saving storage space while still keeping some of the older backups in case something went wrong (and needs to be restored from) a long time ago.

DIBS is a backup system that protects your data by giving your files to peers

dibs.png DIBS is a backup system that protects your data by giving your files to peers (and in return, you store their files) so that if a catastrophe strikes your area, you can recover data from surviving peers. This solves the problem of mirroring your data by adding more disks to your own computer only ot have a fire, flood, power surge, etc. wiping out your local data center.Note that DIBS is a backup system, *not* a file sharing system like Napster, Gnutella, Kazaa, etc. In fact, DIBS encrypts all data transmissions so that the peers you trade files with can not access your data.
