Adobe annuncia l'Open Screen Project e rimuove i costi di licenza per Adobe Flash Player Adobe e altre importanti aziende del settore danno il via all’Open Screen Project, con l'obiettivo di favorire la diffusione di esperienze Internet di ultima generazione su televisioni, personal computer, dispositivi mobili e apparecchiature elettroniche di consumo. Attraverso l'Open Screen Project sarà possibile realizzare un ambiente runtime uniforme, basato su Adobe Flash Player e in futuro su Adobe AIR, che consentirà di rimuovere le barriere che ostacolano sviluppatori e designer nella pubblicazione di contenuti e applicazioni destinati a piattaforme e dispositivi diversi, ad esempio cellulari, MID (Mobile Internet Devices) e set-top box.

SWF e FLV saranno open e gli applicativi non più soggetti a pagamenti di royalty. Sebbene il player non sia ancora stato aperto, è una mossa che favorirà lo sviluppo di applicativi Flash e AIR nella comunità open source

Adobe potenzia le tecnologie RIA per la comunità Linux.La comunità degli sviluppatori Linux ora potrà utilizzare collaudate tecnologie Web, come i programmi HTML, Ajax, Adobe Flash e Adobe Flex, per creare ricche applicazioni Internet (RIA) utilizzabili su desktop con qualunque sistema operativo. Gli sviluppatori RIA potranno estendere le applicazioni desktop create con Adobe AIR agli utenti Linux senza dover scrivere codice specifico per tale piattaforma e offriranno anche a questi utenti l’accesso ad applicazioni desktop con interfaccia innovativa e personalizzata, fino ad ora riservato all’utenza Mac e Windows. 

È stata rilasciata la prima alpha di Adobe AIR per Linux. Finalmente, a circa un mese dall’uscita delle versioni per Windows e Mac, anche gli utenti Gnu/Linux, potranno usufruire delle innovative funzioni del software. AIR è stato pensato per «unire il meglio di internet con il meglio del desktop», ha spiegato Mike Downey, Group Manager of Platform Evangelism in Adobe. Insomma, lo stesso concetto che sta alla base di altri software come Prism. Con il nuovo prodotto Adobe si può infatti eseguire le applicazioni web direttamente sul nostro desktop, anche quando si è offline. La versione per Linux, è ancora in alpha, e quindi molte funzioni non sono ancora state implementate. Per poter funzionare richiede una distriduzione recente (Ubuntu, Suse, ecc), Gnome o Kde come Desktop Environments, e Deb o Rpm come gestore pacchetti. Inoltre, per ora è supportata solo la lingua inglese, anche se la versione finale includerà il supporto per altri linguaggi.
